The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear Houston's appeal of a lower court ruling that threw into doubt the city's spousal benefits to gay married municipal employees, allowing a case that tests the reach of the landmark 2015 decision legalizing same-sex marriage nationwide to proceed.

Texas is predicted to lose big time as local, national and international companies prepare to go to war over a discriminatory Republican-led bill.

It is amazing that Republicans still want to legislate what bathroom transgender people can use. On Friday night, the Texas Senate decided to pass a bill forcing transgender people to use the bathroom based on the gender that is listed on their birth certificate. The bill also overturns local non-discrimination ordinances that allow transgenders to use whatever bathroom they want.

TAB determined that anti-LGBT legislation would cost Texas roughly 0.5 percent of its gross domestic product, mostly from decreased travel and tourism.

The Texas economy stands to lose $8.5 billion and 185,000 jobs if anti-LGBT legislation passes in next year’s session, according to an analysis from the Texas Association of Business, the state’s chamber of commerce.
