Diana Nyad, an out and proud Lesbian has become the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. The record 110 mile swim concluded at about 1:55 pm on Labor Day 2013. Nyad grew up in Fort Lauderdale and attended the elite Pine Crest School, swimming under the tutelage of Olympian (and Hall of Fame) coach Jack Nelson. She has attempted the swim three times prior to this and each time failed because of jellyfish stings or exhaustion. |
