James Franco's fabulously gay roast | Daily Xtra

James Franco's fabulously gay roast | Daily Xtra | PinkieB.com | LGBTQ+ Life | Scoop.it

Yes. Yes God dammit, this is being live-blogged. All right, some back story here: When they filmed the Comedy Central Roast of James Franco last week, reports leaked that there were more than a few gay jokes since Franco has famously flirted with queer culture. As a result, the internet cranked out another round of think pieces on whether or not gay jokes were still funny. The answer: Yeah, if they’re done right. But for the sake of fairness, I’m gonna sit down on the couch with my puppy and a box of Pop-Tarts and watch this thing in earnest and blog about it. For this is the internet, and over-thinking is the name of the game.

Cheney sisters spar over gay marriage: Why now?

Cheney sisters spar over gay marriage: Why now? | PinkieB.com | LGBTQ+ Life | Scoop.it

At the start of the Labor Day holiday weekend — with Congress away, Syria looming large and many Americans consumed by back-to-school chores and last-gasp beach breaks –the politically savvy Cheney sisters publicly clashed over same-sex marriage. “I am strongly pro-life and I am not pro-gay marriage,” declared Liz Cheney Perry, who at 47 has a husband, five kids and a strong desire to defeat Wyoming’s three-term Sen. Mike Enzi in the Republican primary next August. She has cast her run against Enzi, 69, as generational.

Bayard Rustin: The Man Homophobia Almost Erased From History - BuzzFeed

Bayard Rustin: The Man Homophobia Almost Erased From History - BuzzFeed | PinkieB.com | LGBTQ+ Life | Scoop.it

Like so many gay New Yorkers of his era, a 27-year-old Walter Naegle went to Times Square one afternoon in 1977 and met a man. The tall man with the shock white in his Afro introduced himself as Bayard Rustin. Black and 37 years Naegle’s senior, Rustin was — to a well-informed circle of activists, historians, and politicos — one of the giants of the 20th-century political organizing. The chance encounter was the beginning of a revolutionary love story, a decade-long relationship that, in many ways, epitomizes our country’s journey from Selma to Stonewall.
